Death of Pomona woman on 10 Freeway in West Covina no longer considered a hit-and-run

WEST COVINA — The California Highway Patrol today said Monday that investigators no longer consider the Saturday night death of a pedestrian on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway a hit-and-run, as was initially thought.

Grisol Lupita Ramirez, 22, of Pomona was struck by a vehicle after she got out of a disabled car on the westbound 10 Freeway about 11:25 p.m. Saturday, according to the CHP. She died at the scene.

Ramirez had been riding in a Honda Civic that crashed and stopped in the No. 2 lane, according to the CHP.

“Ms. Ramirez exited the Honda Civic from the passenger’s side and walked directly into the path of a Honda Accord in the No. 1 lane,” a CHP statement said. “Ms. Ramirez was struck by the Honda Accord and she came to rest in the No. 1 lane.”

The driver of the Accord, 30-year-old Michael Dinh of Covina, stopped at the scene and was interviewed by officers, according to the CHP.

The crash initially was classified as a hit-and-run, but on Monday morning, a CHP statement said that was no longer the case.

“The CHP no longer considers this to be a hit-and-run collision,” the CHP statement said.

Anyone with more information about the case was urged to call the CHP’s Baldwin Park office at (626) 338-1164.
