POMONA — Authorities Wednesday identified a passenger killed in a Pomona freeway crash that resulted in the driver’s arrest of suspicion of DUI.

Zachary Munoz, 21, of Fontana died at the scene of the crash, which occurred at 12:22 a.m. Tuesday on the eastbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway near North Orange Grove Avenue.

Nathan R. Anaya, 26, of Upland was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, California Highway Patrol Officer C. Rodriguez said.

Munoz was the right front passenger in a 1990 Lexus LS400, driven by Anaya, that veered into a Freightliner big rig parked on the right shoulder, Rodriguez said. The trucker was not injured.

Anaya was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital with lacerations to his face and placed under arrest, Rodriguez said.

“Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in this collision,” the officer said.

Three eastbound lanes were closed for several hours while an investigation was conducted.
