The driver of a pickup truck suffered a medical emergency and sped through a red light moments before he died in a fatal two-vehicle collision that left three others injured Saturday night at Van Buren Boulevard and Arlington Avenue in Riverside, authorities said.

Police and fire crews were called to a two-vehicle crash at 8:48 p.m. and found both vehicles with major damage. One was a pickup that had sheared off a fire hydrant and then came to rest on a telephone pole, the Riverside Fire Department said in a statement.
A man in his 50s who was driving the white Dodge pickup was pronounced dead at the scene. A female occupant of that vehicle, 55, was transported to a hospital.
Riverside police said the pickup truck driver was heading south on Van Buren Boulevard when he suffered a medical emergency, which was not further described.
The pickup sped into the intersection against a red light and struck a silver Ford Focus traveling west on Arlington Avenue, police said.
The Focus was occupied by a woman in her 50s and a girl, 16. Both were taken to hospitals in critical condition.
As crews were working the vehicle crash, a pedestrian in her 50s was struck by a car nearby on the other side of the intersection on Arlington and was sent to a hospital with minor injuries, the Fire Department said.
The intersection was open to traffic Sunday morning. It had been closed for several hours.
Police were investigating both incidents. The fatal crash was being handled by the department’s Major Accidents Investigation Team. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Detective Z. Fishell at 951-826-8723.
