RIVERSIDE — A male motorcyclist was killed Saturday in a collision with a car on the 215/60 Freeway.

It happened on the freeway near Central Avenue and Watkins Drive, the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department said.

The rider — whose age and name were not immediately available — flew off the motorcycle at a speed of about 60 mph when the vehicle hit the center divider, according to the California Highway Patrol.

He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

A SigAlert at 4:43 p.m. temporarily shut down the HOV and number 1 lanes.

The CHP log said officers were dispatched at 4:38 p.m. to the crash on the southbound freeway north of Box Springs Road. The CHP was investigating.
