The CHP said Wednesday that the crash happened when a Kia Rondo heading south on Duffy Street went through an intersection with a stop sign, without stopping, and crashed into a Honda Accord that was heading east on Ogden Street.
Two vehicles were involved in the crash, with each vehicle carrying two people, according to Eric Sherwin, spokesman for the Fire Department.
Officials said the right front end of the Kia hit the left front end of the Honda. Both the driver and passenger of the Kia were ejected from the minivan.
The driver of the Kia was a 22-year-old man from San Bernardino, according to Sandoval. He was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. The passenger, a 20-year-old from San Bernardino, was transported to a local hospital with major injuries. He died of his injuries at the hospital.
Both driver and passenger of the Honda were also transported for medical attention. The driver, a 31-year-old woman from San Bernardino, was sent with minor injuries. Her passenger, a 6-year-old boy, was sent with moderate injuries.
Sherwin said one person was transported for precautionary reasons. The other three people were immediately transported to the hospital, with two of those three transported with life-threatening injuries.
The passenger in the Kia was identified by the San Bernardino County Coroner as Adrian Hernandez.
Officials with the CHP said the crash was still under investigation, and anyone with information could contact its San Bernardino office at 909-383-4247.
