A Moreno Valley man was arrested Monday on suspicion of posing as a driver for a rideshare service and sexually assaulting a woman in Temecula.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said deputies from its Temecula station responded to reports of kidnapping and sexual assault in the area of Temecula and Redhawk parkways at around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday.
A woman was waiting for a rideshare service driver at a gas station in Pala, an unincorporated area of San Diego County, when a man told her that he was her ride, officials said.
The Sheriff’s Department said the woman noticed that the man was not a rideshare driver. She asked to be let out of the vehicle, but the man wouldn’t abide.
The man sexually assaulted the woman after driving into Temecula, authorities said. She got out of the vehicle in the area of Temecula and Redhawk parkways and called 911.
The suspect was identified as Luis Fernando Alba, 24.
Court records show Alba was arrested on Monday evening at around 7 p.m. on suspicion of carjacking and sexual assault.
The vehicle used in the incident had been carjacked Saturday in Moreno Valley, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Alba was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center with a bail of $120,000.
