1 killed, 3 injured in crash west of Hemet

HEMET — One person was fatally injured and three others were hurt Monday in a two-car crash just west of Hemet.

The California Highway Patrol reported that two cars collided on the eastbound side of Highway 74, near Winchester Road, about 12:50 p.m., though the circumstances were unclear.

Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department paramedics arrived within a few minutes and found two victims ejected from one of the vehicles, which had overturned into a ditch along the highway, and pronounced one of them dead at the scene. The other patient suffered numerous broken bones and was taken to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley, according to reports from the scene.

The Riverside County Coroner’s Bureau identified the person who died as 36-year-old Jennifer Haro-Gonzalez, of Hemet. She was pronounced dead at 1:06 p.m.

According to the fire department, the other two crash victims were taken to a hospital for treatment of what were described as minor injuries.

The CHP temporarily shut down the entire eastbound side of the highway at the scene to conduct a preliminary investigation. Motorists were  detoured around the wreckage.
