Perris man dies in crash with parked vehicle in Nuevo

Police suspect alcohol played a role in a fatal collision at the southern edge of Nuevo early Sunday, Sept. 16, when a 2004 Cadillac Escalade slammed into a parked SUV.

The Escalade was heading east on San Jacinto Avenue when it plowed into the Ford Expedition east of Lava Way at about 1:08 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

The Cadillac rolled over, and its driver was ejected. He died before firefighters and paramedics arrived, Cal Fire Riverside officials said.

The driver was identified as Jose Hernandez Cruz, 31, of Perris, CHP officials said.

Officers suspect that alcohol and improper use of a seat belt may have factored into the fatal crash.

Officers have asked anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them at 951-637-8000.
