A man was hit and killed by a vehicle in Hemet on Friday night, and the Hemet Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding the driver who left the scene after the crash.
Officers responded to the 3200 block of Warley Road at around 7:40 p.m. after receiving a call about a vehicle hitting a person.
An unresponsive man was found in the roadway when officers arrived at the scene of the crash, police said. The vehicle that hit the man was no longer in the area and left before police and medical personnel arrived.
The man was pronounced dead by the Riverside County Coroner’s Bureau just after 8 p.m. on Friday. He was identified as 46-year-old James Gauthier Jr., who was listed as a transient.
Police said the vehicle that hit and killed the man was a black 2015-to-2017 Dodge Challenger that sustained front-end damage.
