Off-roading crash east of Hemet leaves 1 dead, 1 hospitalized

A vehicle traveled off of a remote trail east of Hemet and crashed on Sunday, May 17, leaving one of its occupants dead and the other hospitalized.

The collision was reported along the Bee Canyon Truck Trail, near Highway 74, at about 3:45 p.m., Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokesman Rob Roseen said. Two people had been “off-roading” in a vehicle that traveled off of a ledge.

One person died in the crash. The other was airlifted to a hospital. Information on the condition of the injured person was not immediately available.

Details regarding their identities were not immediately released.

A helicopter was used to locate and reach the crash site, which was located amidst rugged terrain in the San Jacinto Mountains northwest of Mountain Center.

The California Highway Patrol and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department sent personnel to the crash scene, the CHP log showed.
