The three occupants of a Cessna died Friday afternoon, June 5, when the airplane crashed east of Mentone in San Bernardino County, authorities said.
The single-engine Cessna went down in the area of 3055 Mill Creek Road, also known as Highway 38. The cause of the crash was not yet known, said Ian Gregor, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration.
Redlands city spokesman Carl Baker said the plane was visible from the road on a ridgeline but was not easily accessible by foot. But rescuers, assisted by a San Bernardino County sheriff’s helicopter, were able to determine that three people had perished.
Baker said there was little sign of fire or a debris field.
The plane crashed around 4 p.m. Authorities did not have an exact time.
No other details were immediately available.
