MEAD VALLEY — A pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run crash in Mead Valley was identified Monday by coroner officials as an 18-year-old Riverside woman.
The collision that killed Michelle Leon and injured two other pedestrians was reported about 9:15 p.m. Sunday in the 20790 block of Markham Street, near Hallett Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. Despite first responders’ attempts to save her, Leon was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second person, a 19-year-old from Riverside, had life-threatening injuries and a third, a minor, had minor injuries, the California Highway Patrol said.
CHP officials also said the crash also injured a horse, which was later euthanized due to its injuries.
The driver responsible for the crash fled the scene westbound on Markham, according to the CHP, which described the suspect vehicle as a gold 1998-2002 Nissan Pathfinder missing the front grill and a headlight.
Anyone with information on that vehicle or the hit-and-run was asked to call the Riverside CHP office at 951-637-8000.
