A vehicle driven by a man suspected of drunken driving slammed into a U.S. Postal Service truck, rolled through the front yard of a home and crashed into an iron gate in Yucaipa over the weekend, sending one person to a hospital, officials said Monday, Oct. 5.
Francisco Zaragoza Torrez, 51, of Yucaipa, was headed north on Bryant Street when his Ford utility-truck crashed into the postal service vehicle near Avenue D at 5:49 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials said in a news release.
The driver of the mail truck suffered major injuries, and was listed in stable condition at Loma Linda University Medical Center as of Monday.
Investigators believe Torrez may have been drinking prior to the crash, and arrested him near the scene of the collision. He was held at the West Valley Detention Center in lieu of $100,000 bail Monday on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and causing bodily injuries, according to inmate records.
Authorities asked anyone with information regarding the crash to contact either Deputy D. Tollefson or Deputy S. Olvera at 909-918-2305. Tips can also be left anonymously with the WeTip Hotline at 800-782-7463 (800-78-CRIME).
