MENIFEE — The Riverside County coroner’s office Sunday identified a 45-year-old man who died in a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a pickup that police believe was caused by intoxicated driving.
The crash happened at 6:23 p.m. Saturday at Goetz Road and Goldenrod Avenue, according to the Menifee Police Department.
Investigators said that a man riding a 1996 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on Goetz Road on the wrong side of the road collided into a northbound pickup.
The motorcyclist was thrown to the roadway and pronounced dead at the scene, according to Lt. Abigail Valle.
He was identified as Christopher Von Moos of Perris, according to the coroner’s office.
The force of the impact also caused the pickup to overturn, Valle said.
The driver of the pickup suffered moderate injuries in the crash and sustained additional injuries after being assaulted by a man who had been accompanying Von Moos on a separate motorcycle.
Police identified the alleged attacker as Blake Allen Anderson, 33, of Menifee.
Anderson was arrested on suspicion of various crimes, including driving under the influence and assault and battery.
“Based on witness statements and evidence located at the scene, it appears speed and intoxication will be factors in this collision. The driver of the pickup truck was evaluated and was determined to have no impairment,” said Valle.
