A San Bernardino man was killed after losing control of his car and striking a curb and a tree, the San Bernardino Police Department said.

Mark Allen Thompson, 34, was driving south on Sierra Way in a Kia Amanti approaching 34th Street on Wednesday, Dec. 2, at about 2:15 a.m. when he attempted to pass a stopped vehicle at the stop sign.

He drove into the northbound lanes while speeding and lost control, never attempting to stop, the Police Department said. Speed, alcohol and possibly drugs were factors in this collision, the agency said.
