A West Covina man was arrested on suspicion of DUI after he struck and killed a construction worker on the 10 Freeway in Ontario, the California Highway Patrol said.

On July 30, a 46-year-old man was driving a Toyota Camry west on the 10 Freeway west of Archibald Avenue around 10:55 p.m. when he entered an established construction closure and struck a worker, the CHP said. Medical personnel responded and transported the construction worker to a hospital where he later died from blunt force trauma-related injuries, the CHP said Monday.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the construction worker because its personnel have not spoken with his next of kin. The CHP identified the worker as a 61-year-old man.

Alcohol was believed to be a factor in the crash, the CHP said.

The CHP did not immediately identify the driver who was arrested.
