The 16-year-old who died in an Oct. 14 crash in Menifee that also killed her brother was identified by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office on Wednesday, Oct. 20, as Aaliyah Girard of San Jacinto.

Girard and Legend Aries Girard, 1, died in the crash that happened at 5:20 p.m. on Domenigoni Parkway near Lindenberger Road.

Aaliyah Girard was a senior at Mountain Heights Academy, where she was in the distance-learning program, said Dawn Lawrence, a spokeswoman for the San Jacinto Unified School District. Two teachers were offered counseling following the girl’s death, Lawrence said.

The collision involved a Chevrolet Silverado towing a trailer and a Ford F-150 pickup, police said. Both were headed west on Domenigoni when the Ford, driven by an 18-year-old Corona resident, veered out of its lane and struck the Chevrolet. The Chevrolet tipped over and the two children were ejected, police said.

Neither child was properly restrained as required by law, Menifee police Capt. Dave Gutierrez said.

“The Menifee Police Department would like to remind everyone to ensure all occupants are properly restrained at all times while riding in a vehicle,” Gutierrez said. “According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 47% of passenger vehicle occupants killed in 2019 were unrestrained.”

The 18-year-old was cited on suspicion of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. He is out of custody and not been charged. No one else was cited in the collision, Gutierrez said.

A relative of the Girard family has established a GoFundMe page to raise money for that family.
