A Corona man was killed after the car he was driving went off a transition road to the 15 Freeway in Corona and crashed, also leaving three passengers with major injuries on Friday, Oct. 29, authorities said.
Just before 4:30 p.m., the car was traveling on the transition road from the eastbound 91 Freeway to the northbound 15 Freeway when it made an “unsafe turning movement” and drove off of the freeway, the California Highway Patrol said on Tuesday, Nov. 2. The car overturned as it went down an embankment and crashed into a concrete light pole on Cresta Road, south of Parkridge Avenue, the CHP said.
The driver, 39-year-old Alex Bonilla, was ejected from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:38 p.m., according to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office and the CHP.
Two passengers were ejected and suffered life-threatening injuries, while another passenger who was not ejected also had major injuries, the CHP said.
