A Los Angeles woman was arrested, authorities said, after she drove under the influence and caused a collision on Thursday, Dec. 2 that killed a Moreno Valley couple.
Wendy Aguilar, 42, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder and driving under the influence of alcohol, with a sentencing enhancement of causing great bodily injury to her passenger, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.
The crash killed Alberto Agoncillo and Lydia Agoncillo, both 80.
The collision happened just after 4 p.m. on Alessandro Boulevard west of Heacock Street in Moreno Valley. A sheriff’s news release said Aguilar was driving a 2002 Acura MDX west on Alessandro “at a high rate of speed” when it struck the passenger side of the Agoncillos’ eastbound 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander as it made a left turn in front of the Acura.
The Agoncillos died at the scene, the release said.
Aguilar suffered minor injuries. Her passenger was hospitalized for treatment of moderate injuries, the release said.
Aguilar was booked into Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, according to the release. The county jail log did not show Aguilar’s arrest on Friday.
