An Upland man was arrested on suspicion of fatally colliding with a Fontana motorcyclist while intoxicated Sunday evening, Dec. 12, and then fleeing the scene, the Upland Police Department said in a news release.

Robert Meyer, 42, was riding his motorcycle at 4:53 p.m. near the intersection of East 9th Street and 13th Avenue when Jorge Romero, 58, pulled out into the eastbound lane, police said. Meyer tried to avoid Romero’s car before sliding into it, authorities said.

Meyer was taken to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries, police said.

Romero briefly checked on Meyer and then fled the scene, according to the Police Department. Investigating officers located Romero shortly after and took him into custody on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, felony hit-and-run and felony DUI, police said.
