A crash on northbound U.S. 101 at Interstate 405 left one person dead early in the morning.
California Highway Patrol dispatch logs reported the incident at 3:03 a.m. in the West Valley area. Authorities notified the Los Angeles County coroner, who assigned case number 2026-03832.
The crash involved a black sedan that overturned before coming to rest back on its wheels, with debris scattered in the lanes. A unit reported wood debris from a damaged guardrail in the lanes.
CHP requested a tow truck, initially canceled it, then requested a flatbed tow for a motorcycle, with the owner requesting it be taken northbound on 405 just south of Burbank Boulevard. EZ Tow was notified and provided an estimated arrival time of 10 minutes.
Fire personnel arrived on scene. Units reported the best access was northbound 405 to northbound 101, noting some ramps were blocked.
CHP requested Caltrans for 100-150 feet of guardrail damage and a hard closure, with an estimated arrival time of 40 minutes. A SigAlert was issued, diverting traffic to 405.
One lane to westbound 101 and one lane to northbound 405 remained open, while all others were closed for an unknown duration. CHP needed lanes 2 through 4 shut down on northbound 101 at 405, with a transition to southbound 405.
The Traffic Management Center was notified of the SigAlert, and media were informed.
Multiple CHP units were assigned starting at 3:06 a.m., with arrivals on scene beginning at 3:09 a.m. and continuing until 3:43 a.m.
Identities of those involved and the cause of the crash were not immediately available.
