A crash on southbound State Route 110 near West 4th Street in central Los Angeles left one person dead Wednesday morning.
According to California Highway Patrol dispatch logs, the fatality was reported at 10:33 a.m. Los Angeles Police Department officers arrived on scene and conducted a traffic break. No details on ambulance requests, CPR efforts or coroner notifications were included in the logs.
CHP supervisors requested Caltrans to start closures on southbound State Route 110, initially at 3rd Street, and later continued for a hard closure. A CHP supervisor issued a SigAlert for lanes 2, 3 and 4, with lane 1 remaining open. Caltrans arrived on scene, and a CHP unit was en route to check lane closures.
A reporting party called upset that no one was directing traffic, which was causing more congestion.
CHP units were assigned starting at 10:36 a.m., arrived on scene by 10:50 a.m. and began clearing the scene around 11:02 a.m., with final units clearing by 12:34 p.m.
The identities of those involved and the cause of the crash were not immediately available.
