The driver of a black Honda CRV died early Saturday when his vehicle flipped, resulting in a multi-car pileup on Interstate 80 eastbound in San Pablo,as reported first by CCAR.
According to CHP Officer Adib Zeid, the first reports that reached the agency before six in the morning suggested that one vehicle had overturned on eastbound I-80 at the San Pablo Dam Road exit. He claimed that the driver got out of his car but was killed by another vehicle after being hit.
Before CHP arrived on the scene, a number of additional vehicles collided with the overturned vehicle, but no additional injuries were reportedly suffered.
The damaged CRV ended up lying on its roof, upside down, in the center of Interstate 80.
The investigation and cleanup following the crash forced a complete shutdown.
