A gruesome crash unfolded Monday afternoon on Route 86 in Oasis , as a double-tractor trailer pinned a Toyota Camry carrying four people, killing one person and seriously injuring others, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch logs.
The crash was reported at about 2:15 p.m. near Route 86 and 85th Avenue in Riverside County, according to CHP dispatch logs. The sedan became wedged between two of the trailers being hauled by the big rig.
An arm was ripped off one person during the crash, according to CHP logs. After firefighters pried the victims free, a helicopter landed to rush one person to the hospital. Despite those life-saving efforts the victim died in the air, according to CHP reports. Three other people in the Corolla were seriously injured.
The tractor trailer’s driver was placed under arrest on suspicion of reckless driving, according to CHP dispatch logs.
The wreck marks another tragic death involving a commercial vehicle. California traffic fatalities in 2022 have jumped to a record level, as inexperienced truck drivers take to the state’s highways in unprecedented numbers.
