Last Updated on December 27, 2022 by C-CAR

Selma police Thursday identified the teen who died on her 17th birthday after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street earlier this month.

Briseida Mariscal lasted a week, fighting for her life in CRMC Fresno. But on her 17th birthday, December 15, the teen tragically lost that battle.

Mariscal was crossing the street on December 8, near the intersection of Floral Avenue and Wright Street when she was struck by a vehicle.

Police publicly identified the teen Thursday, as the crash victim.  They also arrested an 18-year-old on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, failure to yield the right of way to a  pedestrian and unsafe turning motion.

Gabriel Basulto of Selma was driving the vehicle that struck Mariscal. He was booked into the Fresno County Jail on Thursday.  The 18-year-old is not suspected to have been intoxicated at the time of the crash. He stayed at the scene.
