One person was killed and 11 others were injured — three critically — when a bus rolled over on the 15 Freeway in the San Bernardino County desert on Tuesday night, Dec. 13.

The crash was reported at 11:32 p.m. in the southbound lanes south of Baker, near Zzyzx Mineral Springs at the northwest tip of the Mojave National Preserve.

San Bernardino County Fire Battalion Chief Mike McClintock said 20 people were on board and several were ejected. Ground and air ambulances transported the injured.

There was no immediate word on the cause of the crash, which is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.

The 15 Freeway is a common route for tour buses going to and coming from Las Vegas. The circumstances of this trip were not announced.
