Upon arrival, officers discovered a 2006 Buick Terraza with major damage to the rear right side area, and a 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle that had split in two pieces. The driver of the motorcycle was found lying in the street and had sustained major injuries. He was transported to a local hospital by L.B.F.D. paramedics and pronounced deceased a few hours later.
The investigation revealed the Buick was traveling south/east on Marina Drive and was attempting to make a left hand turn into a shopping center, when it was struck by the motorcycle, which was traveling north/west on Marina Drive in the #1 lane, at a high rate of speed. The force of the impact caused the handlebars, front forks, and front wheel of the motorcycle to break apart from the rest of the motorcycle.
The driver of the motorcycle is only being identified as a 25-year-old male resident of Long Beach, pending notification of next of kin. He was believed to be driving under the influence of alcohol and did not have a valid motorcycle endorsement on his California driver’s license.
The driver of the Buick was a 39-year-old female resident of Long Beach. She and her 12-year-old passenger had only minor pain and were not transported.
