The preliminary investigation indicated a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (L.A.S.D.) deputy was transporting a prisoner, who was arrested outside of Long Beach, to the Lakewood Sheriff’s Station. The deputy, in a marked L.A.S.D. patrol vehicle, was traveling south on Paramount Boulevard when a 2013 Toyota Camry, traveling north on Paramount Blvd., crossed over the center median into the southbound lanes resulting in a collision.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded and extricated the deputy from his vehicle. Fire Department personnel transported the male adult deputy, in serious condition, to a local hospital.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel also transported the male adult prisoner, who was in the L.A.S.D. vehicle, to a local hospital. The male adult driver, who was the sole occupant, of the Toyota Camry was also transported to a local hospital. Both were listed in serious condition.
Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigation detectives responded to the scene to begin their investigation. Whether drugs/alcohol was a factor is yet to be determined. Charges against the driver of the Toyota Camry are pending further investigation.
All streets re-opened around 6:00 a.m.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call the L.B.P.D. Collision Investigation Detail at (562) 570-7355.
