On Tuesday July 24, 2018 at approximately 4:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) and Lemon Avenue regarding a vehicle versus motorcycle injury traffic collision, that resulted in the death of a male adult.
Upon arrival, officers located the critically injured motorcyclist lying along the north curb of PCH west of Lemon Avenue. Long Beach Fire reponded and transported the motorcyclist to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Based on the preliminary investigation, the motorcyclist, a 26-year-old male resident of Los Angeles, was traveling westbound in the #2 lane of PCH approaching Lemon Avenue, on a green light, at a high rate of speed. The vehicle, a 2018 Dodge Challenger driven by a 20-year female resident of Long Beach, was making a left turn from eastbound PCH to northbound Lemon Avenue on a green light.
Upon nearly completing the left turn the vehicle was struck by the motorcycle and the motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle. The force of the collision caused the vehicle to spin out and come to a stop facing southeast along the west curb of Lemon Avenue north of PCH.
Further investigation revealed the motorcyclist was driving on a suspended/revoked driver’s license and without a motorcycle endorsement.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured. The vehicle driver was interviewed and released at the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.
