TRAFFIC FATALITY – PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY AND GRAND AVE

Last Updated on September 26, 2022 by CCAR Staff

On Sunday August 18, 2019 at 2:40 A.M. officers from the Long Beach Police Department were dispatched to Pacific Coast Highway and Grand Avenue regarding a traffic collision between two vehicles that resulted in the death of an adult female.

When officers arrived on scene they discovered a female adult passenger trapped inside one of the vehicles. Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and extricated the trapped female passenger from a 1999 Lincoln Town Car. Paramedics transported the female, a 21 year old resident of the City of  Bellflower, to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries a short time later.

The driver of the 1999 Lincoln Town Car, Osvaldo Ramirez-Vazquez, was traveling east on Pacific Coast Highway at a high rate of speed approaching Grand Avenue, when he lost control of his vehicle, causing it to rotate to the left. His vehicle crossed into west bound Pacific Coast Highway traffic, causing the passenger door to be broad-sided by a 2014 Cadillac XTS, being driven by a 49 year old resident of Garden Grove. That driver was also extricated by the Long Beach Fire Department and was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Ramirez-Vazquez sustained minor injuries from the accident.

The preliminary investigation, based on both driver’s and witness statements, revealed that Ramirez-Vazquez was operating a motor vehicle at a high rate of speed, while under the influence of alcohol, when he lost control, striking the Cadillac that was driving the opposite direction.

The identity of the deceased female adult is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office.

Ramirez-Vazquez was booked into the Long Beach Jail for driving under the influence of alcohol and vehicular manslaughter.

Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to contact Detective S. Loughlin of the Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigations Detail at (562) 570-5520.
