On Tuesday September 8, 2020, at approximately 6:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Ocean Boulevard and Temple Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision involving two vehicles and a motorcycle, which resulted in the death of a male adult.
Upon arrival, officers located the motorcyclist in the eastbound lanes of Ocean Boulevard east of Temple Avenue. A vehicle involved in the collision was stopped in the eastbound lanes of Ocean Boulevard east of Temple Avenue. The second involved vehicle was also stopped on Ocean Boulevard east of Temple Avenue. The motorcyclist had sustained severe injuries as a result of the collision.
The Long Beach Fire Department arrived on scene and rendered aid to the injured motorcyclist before transporting him to a local hospital. The motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries sustained during the collision.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2008 Suzuki GSX-R600 motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Ocean Boulevard at a high rate of speed, being ridden by a 23-year-old male resident of Long Beach. As the motorcyclist approached Temple Avenue, he attempted to pass a 2005 GMC Yukon on the right. The GMC was in the number one lane preparing to make a left turn from Ocean Boulevard to Temple Avenue and was traveling at a very slow speed. The motorcyclist struck the back of the GMC, then struck the back of a 2003 Ford Ranger, which was also traveling eastbound Ocean Boulevard in the number two lane. The GMC was being driven by a 28-year-old male resident of Long Beach with four passengers and the Ford was being driven by a 30-year-old male resident of the City of Cypress.
Both the driver of the GMC Yukon and the driver of the Ford Ranger remained on scene and are cooperating with the investigation. Neither alcohol, drugs, or distracted driving were a factor for either driver.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office will identify the driver and notify next of kin.
