TRAFFIC FATALITY – OCEAN BOULEVARD AND LINDERO AVENUE

On Oct. 21, 2021 at approximately 6:24 a.m., a special services officer from the Long Beach Police Department witnessed an injury traffic collision at the intersection of Ocean Boulevard and Lindero Avenue, which resulted in the death of an adult male.

Upon witnessing the collision, the special services officer called for additional resources and began performing life-saving measures on a pedestrian until the Long Beach Fire Department arrived. Despite their efforts, the pedestrian was determined to be deceased at the scene by Fire personnel. 

The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was walking in lanes of traffic, outside a crosswalk, at the intersection of Ocean Boulevard and Lindero Avenue. He was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound which had entered the intersection on a green light. The vehicle, a 2021 Acura ILX, was being driven by a 48-year-old resident of Long Beach. The driver had a valid license and remained on scene to cooperate with the investigation. At this time, speed, impaired driving, and distracted driving are not believed to be a factor in this collision.

The pedestrian was identified as Fikre Workneh, a 84-year-old resident of Long Beach.
