On June 7, 2021, at approximately 5:30 p.m., officers responded to an injury traffic collision in the area of Long Beach Boulevard and 67th Way, which resulted in the death of a male adult motorcyclist.
Upon arrival, officers located a motorcyclist in the roadway who sustained multiple severe injuries.
Through their preliminary investigation, officers learned a reported stolen 2020 Yamaha motorcycle, driven by a 24-year-old male resident of Long Beach, struck a Lincoln MKX SUV driven by a 68-year-old female resident of Long Beach. The driver of the Lincoln attempted to complete a left turn at the time of the collision. Witnesses at the scene stated the motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Long Beach Boulevard while speeding when he split lanes to pass a vehicle just prior to the collision at 67th Way. The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital by the Long Beach Fire Department, where he was in critical condition.
The driver of the Lincoln remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. The driver was identified by her valid drivers license and had valid insurance. Neither distracted nor impaired driving were believed to have been a factor in this collision.
On June 14, 2021, detectives were notified by hospital staff the motorcyclist had succumbed to his injuries. At this time, the decedent is only being identified as a 24-year-old male resident of Long Beach. The Los Angeles County Coroners Office was notified and will contact the next of kin.
