On July 3, 2021 at approximately 10:49 a.m., officers responded to an injury traffic collision in the area of 10th Street and Long Beach Boulevard, which resulted in the death of a female adult.
Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle that had collided into a parked car, a street sign, a commercial gas line and a tree. The vehicle was on fire with two occupants inside. Good Samaritans and officers attempted to extinguish the fire until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene.
Fire Department personnel extinguished the fire and administered life-saving measures to the passenger, however she succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Fire Department personnel transported the driver to a local hospital for his critical injuries.
Preliminary investigation revealed a 1994 Buick Le Sabre, driven by a 51-year-old resident of Los Angeles, had been involved in a vehicle collision a few blocks away and was fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed. As the Buick traveled westbound on 10th Street, the driver lost control and collided with a 2008 Honda Accord that was unoccupied and legally parked. The Buick then collided into a large tree and a City of Long Beach gas line.
The driver of the Buick was identified with their California Identification Card. He did not have a valid driver’s license and was not insured. It is unsure at this time if drugs or alcohol contributed to this collision.
The decedent has been identified as a 40-year-old female resident of Lakewood. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and will assist in notifying the next of kin.
