On May 8, 2022, at approximately 9:14 p.m., officers responded to the area of Atlantic Avenue and 19th Street regarding an injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian, which resulted in the death of an adult male.
Upon arrival, officers located Long Beach Fire Department personnel rendering aid to a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle.
The Long Beach Fire Department transported the pedestrian to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2014 Honda, driven by a female resident of
Long Beach, was traveling northbound on Atlantic Avenue north of 19th Street as the pedestrian was crossing westbound in lanes of traffic outside of a crosswalk and was struck. The driver was unable to stop or avoid striking the pedestrian.
The driver of the Honda remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. At this time, neither distracted driving, impaired driving, nor speed are believed to be factors in the collision.
The pedestrian is only being identified as a 36-year-old male resident of Long Beach. His identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin, which will be conducted by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
