Two people were killed in Montclair on Friday evening, Dec. 17 after a car blew through a stop sign, hit a pedestrian, then traveled in the wrong direction and collided with two vehicles, authorities said.
A speeding BMW was heading east on Orchard Street at Ramona Avenue at around 5:30 p.m. when the driver failed to stop at the stop sign and struck and killed a 61-year-old pedestrian, police said.
The 43-year-old driver kept going down Orchard Street before turning north onto Monte Vista Avenue.
Still speeding and on the wrong side of the road, the BMW collided into a vehicle stopped at a red light south of the intersection of Monte Vista Avenue and San Bernardino Street. The car then continued to travel north in the wrong lanes before colliding with another vehicle head-on.
The head-on crash killed the BMW driver and injured two occupants in the other vehicle.
No names were released as of Saturday afternoon.
It was unclear if alcohol was a contributing factor.
