Harley-Davidson rider, 51, killed in Diamond Bar crash

A motorcyclist died early Saturday morning after he clipped the back of a big rig, then was thrown into traffic and hit multiple times on the northbound 57 Freeway.

The 51-year-old Harley-Davidson Touring motorcycle driver was behind the trailer in the No. 4 lane of the 57 near the Diamond Bar Boulevard exit at around 2 a.m.

When the driver tried to merge into the rightmost lane to pass the trailer, he swiped the back end of the big rig and lost control of the motorcycle, according the California Highway Patrol. That sent the bike careening into a concrete K rail.

Police said they believe the motorcycle driver was hit several times by passing vehicles after he flew off the motorcycle, receiving severe head injuries.

He died at the scene, and has not yet been identified, though police said he lived in Bullhead City, Arizona.

The big rig driver pulled over after the crash. He was not injured. Police said they didn’t believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

The northbound side of the 57 just north of the L.A. County line was closed for several hours Saturday. All lanes were reopened before 8 a.m.
