2 die in crash after car fails to stop at a Fontana intersection

A man and a woman died after their car failed to stop at a stop sign and they were then struck by a pickup truck in Fontana early Sunday morning, Aug. 15, police said.

The pair were in a gray Nissan Versa going south on Redwood Avenue, when they went through the sign and were struck by the pickup truck going west on Slover Avenue at around 12:45 a.m., Fontana police said. The people in the Nissan died upon impact.

The passenger who died was Blanca Espinoza, 47, of Fontana, according to the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office said. The name of the man who was driving was not yet released, pending notification of kin.

The driver of the pickup truck, a black GMC Sierra, was not injured. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.

The intersection was closed for several hours after the crash.
