A man was charged with DUI and second-degree murder after a July 10 crash in Rancho Cucamonga that killed a woman and left another person with serious injuries, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday, July 20.
Moises Reina, 32, was arrested on July 10 and was charged on July 13 with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, second-degree murder and DUI causing injury, the Sheriff’s Department said. He was being held on $1 million bail.
On July 10, at 5:13 p.m., Reina’s car collided with three other cars near the intersection of Milliken Avenue and Base Line Road, officials said. One of the cars struck was pushed into the intersection and struck by an eastbound vehicle, the Sheriff’s Department said.
The driver and passenger of the car struck in the intersection were hospitalized with serious injuries. The passenger, 50-year-old Mia Johnson from Rancho Cucamonga, died from her injuries at a hospital a couple of hours after the crash, said Jodi Miller, spokeswoman for the department.
Reina’s car stopped in the intersection and he was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Deputies investigated the crash and arrested Reina, authorities said. The cause of the crash was still under investigation, the Sheriff’s Department said.
