Musician Matt Mauser, whose wife died in the 2020 helicopter crash that also killed Kobe Bryant and seven others, will appear Tuesday, July 6 on the TV show “America’s Got Talent,” where he plans to deliver a vocal tribute to his wife, according to NBC.

The show is scheduled to air at 8 p.m. during AGT’s 16th season on NBC. Mauser has been the co-founder, guitarist and singer for local Orange County band Tijuana Dogs, and also does Frank Sinatra tribute performances. Now a single father, he and his three children live in Huntington Beach.

“Matt is a talented father with a heart of gold and a story about moving through grief that will inspire viewers across the country,” a spokesperson for the show said in a news release, adding that Mauser wants to show his children that their tragedy should not hold them back from their dreams.

In January 2020, Mauser’s wife, Christina, who was a girl’s basketball assistant coach, was killed in the Calabasas helicopter crash that also took the lives of eight other people, including basketball legend Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna.

In March 2020, Mauser wrote the song “Lost” in honor of his wife and uploaded it to YouTube, where it became popular.

In his darkest moment, Mauser said he decided to stop being depressed, picked up his guitar and he wrote the song “Lost” for his late wife. He uploaded the song to YouTube and shared it via the Tijuana Dogs’ official Facebook page on March 24.
