MORENO VALLEY — A 22-year-old man was killed in a head-on crash when a motorist crossed into oncoming traffic in Moreno Valley, authorities said Tuesday.
Christopher Chairez of Moreno Valley was fatally injured about 7:50 p.m. Monday in the 15000 block of Lasselle Street, near JFK Drive, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Sgt. Joe Narciso said Chairez was driving a Toyota sedan north on Lasselle when the driver of a Mercedes SUV going southbound “for unknown reasons … crossed into opposing traffic and struck the Toyota.”
Paramedics reached the location minutes later and pronounced Chairez dead at the scene, Narciso said.
The occupants of the Mercedes suffered unspecified non-life- threatening injuries and were taken to Riverside University Medical Center for treatment.
“The investigation is continuing, and deputies are still trying to determine if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision,” the sergeant said.
No arrests have been made.
