One person died Sunday and three others were injured in a rollover crash involving at least one SUV on Highway 243 in the San Jacinto Mountains.

The crash was reported at 2:32 p.m. in the 19000 block of the highway near Pine Cove.

The California Highway Patrol initially said a silver SUV and a black SUV were involved in a fatal head-on collision.

The Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department later said it responded to an SUV rollover crash.

Fire officials said one person was killed in the crash while three others were injured, one critically, prompting an air ambulance to be dispatched to the scene.

Two people who suffered moderate wounds were taken to the hospital via ground ambulance.

The crash forced the closure of lanes in both directions, the CHP said.
