A 19-year-old Corona resident was not expected to survive his injuries after the car he was driving crashed into a concrete light pole, the Riverside Police Department said.

The crash happened at about 3:15 a.m. Saturday, May 8. Police said the driver, whose name was not announced, was headed west on Collett Avenue “at a high rate of speed” when he entered the intersection at Pierce Street. The driver lost control and his 2019 Toyota Camry struck the light pole.

Two passengers were not injured. Impairment might have contributed to the crash, the police news release said.

Police asked anyone with information on the crash to contact Detective Jeffrey Derouin at 951-826-8722 or jderouin@riversideca.gov
