One person was killed in a traffic collision Wednesday afternoon, May 5, that started a brush fire north of San Jacinto that burned 226 acres, the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department said.
The fire was contained at 11:18 p.m., and firefighters remained there until Thursday morning, Cal Fire said.
The crash was reported just before 3 p.m. near the intersection of Gilman Springs Road and Bridge Street. A preliminary investigation indicates the driver was headed south on Gilman Springs Road and, for an unknown reason, left the roadway and struck concrete pipes, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.
The driver was pulled from a vehicle with serious injuries by sheriff’s deputies and good Samaritans. However, Glori Reece, 26, of Hemet, died at the scene at 3:32 p.m., the Coroner’s Office said.
