MORENO VALLEY — A motorist killed when his sedan slammed into a retaining wall in Moreno Valley was identified Monday as a 22-year-old resident of the city.

Carlos Rodriguez was fatally injured about 11 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Kitching Street and Sunnymead Boulevard.

According to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Joe Narciso, Rodriguez was driving north on Kitching at high speed when he apparently lost control of his Toyota Corolla and veered off of the roadway, plowing into the wall.

Paramedics arrived 10 minutes later and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved.

Kitching was completely closed at the location for roughly four hours while a preliminary investigation was conducted.

Narciso said alcohol or drugs may have been factors in the crash. An autopsy was pending.
