Rapid bus service a good thing but needs upgraded amenities to succeed: Letters

Re “$87M federal grant OK’d for proposed rapid bus project” (April 10):

I love the idea of rapid zero emission bus service “providing fast, frequent bus service that connects Pomona to the Ontario airport, key business hubs and communities throughout the region.”

However, there is an important element missing in the analysis. I took a transportation class at UCLA and discovered that the emotional aspect is key to ridership.

People are willing to ride on nicely accommodated trains and tour buses with comfortable seats and phone-charging stations. They produce a positive ambience.

Many don’t want to ride austere buses because it produces a negative feeling.

For public buses to succeed,  please consider improved, comfortable vehicles with a touch of sophistication.

They will pay for themselves with increased ridership.

Illegal fireworks

Re “New online system allows reporting of illegal fireworks” (April 9):

A great article in the paper regarding San Bernardino’s new online system to report illegal fireworks. So, what are the incompetent Riverside County Board of Supervisors doing to combat the horrendous problem of illegal fireworks that puts lives and property in danger and gets 100 times worse each year in Riverside County?

Year after year this problem escalates because law-breaking citizens know in Riverside County nothing is going to be done. There used to be billboards, signs in business and newspaper articles reminding the law breakers as to the consequences of this illegal activity. With a board that cares nothing about the safety of its citizens and a sheriff who is a puppet for the board, there is little hope that the citizens of Riverside County will get any relief from this dangerous, illegal activity.

COVID-19 and our children’s fears

Our children are now being raised in fear, of each other, of the world, of illness, the virus and even the air they breathe. They are being taught to fear everything. Prolonged fear is terror and terror becomes trauma. The psychological damage being done is irreversible.

Think about it.
