17-year-old dies in single-vehicle crash in Murrieta

A 17-year-old driver of a vehicle that slammed into a brick wall and tree in Murrieta died in the crash, police said.

The collision occurred at 11:11 p.m. Thursday on Whitewood Road north of Mapleton Street, Murrieta police said in a news release Friday, March 26. Investigators believe the driver of the vehicle traveling north on Whitewood Road left the roadway and crashed.

Emergency crews found the 17-year-old driver unconscious and trapped in his vehicle. He was later pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His identity was not immediately disclosed because he is a minor.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision, police said. The investigation into the cause of the crash was ongoing Sunday afternoon.
