Temecula man dies following Monday morning crash near Murrieta

A 43-year-old Temecula man died following a crash on the 215 Freeway near Murrieta early Monday morning, the California Highway Patrol reported.

At about 12:42 a.m., a Volkswagen Jetta was headed southbound on the 215 north of Clinton Keith Road next to a Ford F-150 at about 70 to 75 mph, the CHP said in a statement.

For reasons that are under investigation, the driver of the Jetta veered to the left and collided into the right side of the F-150. The force of the impact caused the Jetta to veer to the right onto the shoulder and strike a light pole, causing it to roll over onto the dirt and grass shoulder area, the CHP said.

The CHP and the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department responded and found the Jetta’s driver suffered major injuries. He was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries, the CHP said. He was identified by the coroner’s office as Sea-Jay Cameron.

Impairment may have played a role in the collision, the CHP said in a news release.
