An on-duty Rialto police officer was hospitalized on Tuesday, March 9, after a traffic collision in Riverside but well enough to later go home.

The crash involving a semi truck with a trailer and an unmarked police sedan was reported just before 10 a.m. at Alamo and Main streets, said Officer Ryan Railsback, a Riverside Police Department spokesman.

The police officer had to be cut out of the car by firefighters, said Riverside Fire Department Division Chief Jeff DeLaurie.

The semi driver was able to walk around after the collision. Neither vehicle had passengers, DeLaurie said.

The officer was not involved in any enforcement action at the time, said Officer Amanda Deleon, a Rialto Police Department spokeswoman.

Riverside police are investigating the cause of the collision.
