A Hemet woman was killed after being hit by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene on Highway 74 in Menifee on Friday night, March 5, police said.
Officers were called to the crash at around 11:30 p.m. in the 27300 block of Highway 74 and found the woman unresponsive and lying in the roadway, Menifee police said in a Saturday statement. The woman, whose name was not immediately released, died at the scene.
Investigators believe that a large framed full-sized pickup truck, possibly a Dodge Ram 4500 model, struck the woman and likely has some damage to the front driver side area, according to police.
“The pedestrian was outside of a crosswalk,” Menifee police Lt. Abigail Valle said in a statement. “And (the) preliminary investigation indicates she may have been walking on the highway when the vehicle, unfortunately, struck her.”
Police asked that anyone with information contact the department at 951-723-1500 or directly to the Traffic Unit at 951-723-1565.
